The War and its Weaknesses in the Backbone of our Country

After nearly four years battling this war in Iraq, Americans are still unsure of why it originally began. It is time to put an end to the Insanity, whether the purpose of it was a true fight against terrorism and keeping our country safe, or just a selfish, irresponsible decision made to take control of oil reserves by the “proud” leader of our country.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The bottom line is, we do not need to be there. Saddam is dead and no weapons of mass destruction were ever found. Also, the cost of the war is too great, in both the loss of lives and the billions of dollars spent so far.

MISUNDERSTANDING

Many believe the initial invasion into Iraq was to combat the war on terror and achieve peace throughout Iraq by removing Saddam from power and eliminating weapons of mass destruction. Although others opinions include that of gaining power over foreign oil, the view that many Americans hold is that of the importance of the war in Iraq for building a self governing body while maintaining the safety in our own country.

Our goal should not be to "win" this war but to find a way to leave this country, which we should never have invaded and withdrawal from this war without causing pandemonium. This war has caused many weaknesses in the backbone of our country. Here are the reasons why I think the war has caused way more harm than good.

1. The amount of casualties is alarming - around 4,000 troops
2. Costing our country far too much - now cumulative of $500 billion
3. Bush has done more since the start of this war to divide our country than to unite it.

Through the lies and blunders of the Bush administration we have been forced to stay in a war that should have never been started, for longer than we are needed, to clean up a mess that we have made with direction from our leaders and spend more money than we need to, which in turn puts even more of a strain on the economy.

Because of the immense strain on the United States caused by the war in Iraq through loss of troop lives, the economic toll and the anger and bitterness of the American people, I think we need to come together as a country to repair what has been broken.

We as Americans need to support setting a deadline for withdrawal of our troops with a plan that will help us to end the war and maintain control of the conflict and guarantee strength and constancy for Iraq so our country as well as others will remain safe. We must be in support of a deadline to motivate the Iraqi people to become a self governing body and take responsibility in their country upon withdrawal of American troops.
